Manvir Gill

I am a lawyer at Savage Oykhman Law (an association of independent law practices). Together with Strategic Criminal Defence, we are a full-service criminal defence law office, with central offices across Western Canada and Ontario.

Justice, inherently complex, may not always align with the desired outcomes of victims or aggrieved parties. Despite this paradoxical nature of our legal system, I remain a firm believer in the process and steadfast in the unwavering pursuit of my client’s interests. It is this belief that fuels my passion for criminal law and advocacy for the rights of my clients.

My journey into criminal law began during my undergraduate studies, where a sociology class on the criminal justice system ignited my passion for the field. Motivated by this newfound interest, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Calgary with the intention of pursuing a career in law.

Subsequently, I earned my Juris Doctor degree with Honors at Bond University in Australia, specializing in Canadian law. This academic pursuit not only deepened my understanding of the legal realm but also provided me with a broader perspective on the functioning of international justice systems. Complementing this achievement, I completed the Graduate Legal Diploma, meeting the qualifications to practice law in Australia.

Post graduation, I completed my articles at Savage Oykhman Law, a pivotal step that allowed me to garner hands-on experience across all facets of criminal law. Working alongside skilled criminal defence attorneys, I honed my skills in client representation, legal research, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy. As an articling student I had the opportunity to learn and handle a diverse range of criminal cases, from minor offences to complex, high-profile maters, which sharpened my critical analysis, strategic formulation, and comprehensive legal advice skills.

Thorough preparation, attention to detail, and staying abreast of legal developments form the pillars of my professional approach. Drawing from my experience, I possess a profound understanding of the legal system and have honed my skills in legal research, case analysis, and client service. Open communication with clients is a priority. At every stage of the process, I aim to offer guidance and reassurance while actively listening to their concerns. My goal as a lawyer is to make a positive impact on the lives of our clients, combining my passion for advocacy with a comprehensive understanding of criminal defence law.
